Enter the New Golf GTI Pirelli

I think I’m in love.

After taking our breath away with the debut of the simply awesome Golf GTI W12 650 at the GTI festival in Wörthersee, Austria last week, Volkswagen didn’t waste time weakening our knees altogether by debuting the stunning, jaw-dropping Golf GTI Pirelli at the same event.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the esteemed Golf GTI Pirelli is back; a powerful, fast and very exclusive GTI. According to the company’s press release, Volkswagen is continuing the history of one of the best known limited edition models in Europe, 24 years after the “original Pirelli” – based on the first generation, second series Golf GTI - arrived on the market. A remarkable and limited 10,500 cars of the special model were built and sold within half a year.

An “homage” to the original 1983 Pirelli GTI that the esteemed tire company Pirelli and Volkswagen developed together, the new Golf GTI Pirelli, built by Volkswagen Individual, uses the Golf GTI Edition 30 as it’s base but special touches, such as the "Pirelli" badging, the paint job, and interior adornments (along with other updated Volkswagen GTI performance parts), have been added for extra appeal.

The car’s interior has been upgraded with a partial-leather sports seat system that has an embedded tire tread pattern. Instead of the previous 112 PS the new car converts 230 PS into forward propulsion. If needed, a 245 km/h top speed is within the car’s capabilities. In 6.8 seconds the Turbo-FSI propels the GTI Pirelli to 100 km/h from a standstill.

One of the most eye-catching features of the car is its unique, GTI Pirelli wheels which, aside from being robed in Pirelli’s own P-Zero 18-inch tires, are also patterned to the Pirelli P logo at each of the five spokes. From afar, these five-spokes are probably the better ones out there. But the Pirelli P detailing just adds to the whole package.

The Pirelli is offered in a choice of bright yellow, silver, black pearl or blue graphite colours, and is due to arrive in showrooms later this year. Prices have yet to be confirmed.

European streets are bound to welcome the comeback of this car in the Fall. North American availability however, is unlikely.

Have You Seen The Wooden VW Bus?

I most certainly found this piece of art to be totally rad. And I mean really cool and very interesting. Who would have thought that a person would have the patience and the talent to create a life-sized VW bus from wood? I sure did not.

But the creator of the masterpiece, Lee Stoetzel, sure did.

He says that he is “very interested in the far reaching power of nature” and maybe that is the very reason why he likes to create quite so unusual stuff that would look like those items that we see and use in our day to day lives.

About the wooden VW Transporter van, this vehicle is mostly made out of wood although there are still some steel elements fused with it. I have really become an instant fan for this artist. I mean, imagine creating a vehicle out of just wood and some scraps of metal. Now that is talent. Stoetzel says that he used pecky cypress wood to make this piece of art. He calls his creation the VW Bus 2007.

At present, this wooden VW Transporter van is set out on display at Mixed Greens. I believe it is for sale and it comes with a $65,000 price tag.

But the VW Transporter van is not the only thing that Stoetzel has created. You see, he has also made other interesting pieces like a computer, and other rides. He has made two motorcycles. One is named the Chopper 2004 and he used wood to create this one. You can own it for $25,000. The other motorcycle is known as the Shell Motorcycle 2007. Now this one comes with a price tag stating $18,000 and it is made up of shells, pieces of metal, and plastic.

What I’m thinking right now though is if I can really ride these vehicles or would it be only used for display. You see, I’m after a vehicle that works!

Volkswagen & LG Electronics United

All your favorite music on your LG MP3 player. All these equipped in an inspired styling and design that is based from the new Volkswagen Beetle car. How does that sound? Cool, isn’t it? You don’t need to wish for it to happen because today, you can avail of the new LG MP3 player in the Volkswagen Beetle inspired design!

The two well known companies have teamed-up last April and it was definitely a good combination. It’s more like an MP3 player in a miniature car but without the VW inner tie rod or wheels! Anyway, according to LG South Korea Spokesperson, Judy Pae, “The player sports an aluminum body and will be available in three of the same colors as the car: Salsa Red, Shadow Blue and Sunflower Yellow.”

The specifications are practically standard for a media player of its class which includes a 2.4-inch color LCD (liquid crystal display) screen and can play MPEG-4, Windows Media Video 9, MP3, Windows Media Audio and Ogg-format files. There are two fixed flash games to play on and it will be offered with a 2G-byte or a 4G-byte versions. LG says that the battery will supply a maximum of 20 hours of playtime, music playback and sufficient time enough to watch approximately three hours of video files.

Volkswagen Will Not Produce Tourer SportVan

Almost everybody is thrilled, and very excited about the future production of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class look-a-like Volkswagen Tourer SportVan. But sadly, it won’t go out into production. Yeah, you heard me right, Martin Winterkorn, the VW boss, pulled out the plan to make the Tourer SportVan into a production vehicle because of the chances of it not being able to sell well in the market are quite huge. According to a VW insider, “The decision is a reflex on the flop Mercedes R-class.” When the VW is looking for chances to increase the number of vehicles in their line up, the plan to build the Volkswagen Tourer SportVan took place under Wolfgang’s time. And the production of the particular vehicle was actually set to compete with the ongoing Mercedes-Benz R-Class. And the AutoBild have announced that the Volkswagen Tourer would have been made more interesting than the Mercedes R-Class. We just wish that the plan of VW to make the car will be pursued. Of course, who would not want to have a car with powerful powertrain parts and real time fewer emission rates? Added with several VW parts, truly the Tourer SportVan would have been kicking butts and leaving other vehicles eating its dust!
