Would Porsche Be Purchasing VW?

It looks like Porsche is quite interested in adding up to their Volkswagen share. And according to some reports, the former car maker is focusing on making their current amount of share total to a 31% of the whole Volkswagen deal.

And the very thing about such is that, as per what is stated in German law, if it happens, Porsche would actually have to do a formal bid so as to be able to take over the whole Volkswagen deal.

I wonder if this is going to become reality. If it does, I do wish both companies well. And I do hope that the whole deal would not end up like the current state of Daimler with Chrysler.

Teen Drivers: How Do You Teach Them?

VW vehicles are one of the favorite vehicles used by teenage drivers and these reasons are quite varied. And as a VW owner myself, I have been receiving offers from parents asking me if I could loan them my VW so the can teach their teens the skills of the trade.

But then, I would choose to refuse for I do love my VW and if they would like to teach their teens, they can get their own units. Anyhow, to do my share of helping out teach teens how to drive, I’ll be writing about some tricks on how you can successfully let your teenager be a responsible driver.

  • Before you start out with any lesson, make sure that your student has his (or her) very own learner’s permit. Or if not, make sure that the student has all other requirements needed for the training.
  • The teenager may have had to go through the classroom hours required before you can actually go ahead and take him (or her) right on the road. And make sure that before you do the actual driving, you go over the rules first.
  • It would be best to do your driving lessons in a parking lot that is empty or maybe even a driving course.
  • The basic pieces of information would help out your teenage driver a lot. So let your student learn about the basic duties of the parts of the vehicle - from the interior to the exterior. After you have done such, then go ahead and let the student rev up the engine. It would not hurt to keep on repeating. At least, you know that you are instilling the basics to your teen student driver.
  • Theories would not help out much so make sure that you also add in applications. Show your student just how these car parts work.
  • Then would be the time for you to take the passenger side and let the student make the engine shudder.
  • Guide them as they take on the feel of the brakes, the transmission shifts, and also the acceleration. Explain as you go along.
  • If the teen student makes some mistakes, don’t be afraid to correct them. If there is a need to provide some tips, then go ahead and do so. Any warnings while on the road should also be shared. And after everything else is done, summarize. At least, your student would not forget what he (or she) just learned.
  • Practice. And be there to guide your student.

    Volkswagen, Worried About Profits Gained

The net is almost filled with news about the Geneva Auto Show. Not like the other auto brands which are so much busy preparing for the most awaited auto show, Volkswagen got nothing much to reveal but the new Phaeton which is, at present, the car that flopped in US but made big waves on the European car market.

Another Volkswagen car, the new Golf Variant, which is known and is more famous being the Jetta Wagon, will also come out as part of the show. VW will also reveal the new 1.9L diesel engine on its Passat. All these cars are filled with Volkswagen parts so quality is never questionable. We can say that VW is still kicking no matter what.

But VW is worried about their sales this February. Although the year 2006 was a success for the German auto brand and they were able to gain an enormous profit of $5.7 billion and was able to double its stock price within 18 month, they are worried about its slow production in the pipeline.

The new VW boss Martin Winterkorn ordered many models on the drawing board after Bernd Pischetsrieder, VW’s Chief Executive Officer, and Wolfgang Bernhard, VW’s Chief, left the group. The Citigroup have been speculating that there will be a slow growth in production of VW car models this year taking the drying product pipeline and launch delays. One more reason of VW is that the cash-flow in the near future will be the high-spending done by Chairman Ferdinand Piech.

As early as possible, Volkswagen must find ways to resolve its future problems. Meanwhile, Honda AEM cam gears are found on the net. If you need one, all you need to do is go and visit your trusted online sites.

VW to sell “clean” technology in North America

Volkswagen is aiming to convince Americans to "go diesel" to the extent that it will not launch its new Tuareg BlueTDI in Europe.

Instead, VW will sell it in North America starting 2008.

The Tuareg BlueTDI is designed to meet the tough emissions standards of California and other states. It has a "selective catalytic reduction" or SCR system that reduces nitrogen-oxide emissions by up to 90 %.

The SCR system works by converting nitrogen oxide into its harmless components: nitrogen and oxygen. The system works in tandem with a diesel particulate filter and a conventional catalytic conventer to cut down further on emissions.

The system makes the Tuareg, according to VW, "one of the most cleanest diesel engines in the market."

    “Smart” Passat, anyone?

    Volkswagen Robotic Passat

Volkswagen of America and stanford University unveiled Monday a diesel Passat loaded with high-tech features.

The Passat, nicknamed "Junior" after Stanford founder Leland Stanford, Jr., is bound for the DARPA Urban challenge in November, which pits unpiloted vehicles against another in a race to develop "smarter" cars.

Junior is equipped with software developed at the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab. Other high-tech gear include Intel Core 2 Duo processors including multiple processing units per chip.

Junior also has electromechanical power steering and an electric throttle, gear shifter and parking brake. VW says these electric systems have been modified to make the car "completely computer controllable."

"We see an opportunity to further advance intelligent technologies for use in passenger vehicles of the future," said Carlo Rummel, executive director of VW of America’s Electronics Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, California. "The features developed for the Urban Challenge will ultimately make driving safer and more enjoyable in today’s increasingly dense traffic."

The 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge will be held on November 3 on a 60-mile "mock urban" course that includes merging with traffic, crossing traffic circles and tackling busy intersections.

The Passat wagon follows in the heels of "Stanley," a VW Touareg that defeated 22 other unmanned vehicles in the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge.

    VW planning on rear-engined compact

BMW’s Mini Cooper will have competitor, if Volkswagen’s plans push trough.

The European carmaker has announced that its planning a rear-engine compact car, according to a report from German car magazine Auto Bild.

The engine layout will dictate a rear-wheel-drive system, which is a rarity nowadays, especially in the world of modern compacts.

Aside from Porsche’s 911, few modern cars have their engines in the rear. Most cars use a mid-engine configuration; the rest are in the front. Even the iconic Beetle has made the engine switch - from the rear to the front.
